Royal visit public transport and free shuttle bus arrangements


Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will travel to Canberra on Monday 21 October 2024. They will visit the Australian War Memorial and Parliament House. Details about where and when to see the King and Queen can be found on the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet website.

Free shuttle arrangements

Planning to attend the events? Transport Canberra will provide free shuttle services on the day. Details of the shuttle pick-up and drop-off locations and times are listed below.

Australian War Memorial event

Free shuttle services will run approximately every 15 minutes from 10:00 am with the last service departing at 11:30 am. This shuttle will provide frequent pick-up and drop-off services from the City Interchange platform 5 via the Canberra Centre to the Australian War Memorial at Treloar Crescent (bus stop 4797).

Return shuttles will commence from the drop off location at the Australian War Memorial (bus stop 4797) 20 minutes after the completion of the event.

Parliament House event

Free shuttle services will run every 15 minutes from 10:30 am with the last service departing at 12:30 pm. This shuttle will provide frequent pick up from the City Interchange platform 3 and drop off at Parliament House.

Return shuttles will commence from the drop off location at Parliament House 20 minutes after the completion of the event. This location will be a temporary bus stop in front of the Parliament House at the intersection of Queen Victoria Terrence and Federation Mall.

Regular bus and light rail services

Fare-free travel is still available on all regular bus and light rail services across the network as part of the transition to the new MyWay+ system. Taking advantage of this opportunity and catching a bus or light rail is also an excellent way to get to either event.

Rapids 2, 3 and 4 will get you to the city where you can catch the free shuttle to either event.

Catch the free shuttle services or use the regular bus services below:

  • Routes 54 and 55 will service the event at the Australian War Memorial. Please note that route 54 will be diverted in both directions due to the road closures around Anzac Parade, but it will still service the bus stop at Treloar Crescent next to the Australian War Memorial.   • Routes 57 and 58 will service the event at Parliament House.

Light rail provides easy access to the city where you can connect free shuttles to either event.

Rapids 4 and 5 provide access to the city where you can catch the free shuttles to either event.

Please note: Rapid 4 services the Tuggeranong Interchange. Rapid 5 does not service the Tuggeranong Interchange but will go through Tuggeranong suburbs to Woden Interchange, Wanniassa, Erindale Interchange, Calwell, Lanyon Marketplace, then to City Interchange.

Rapids 4 and 6 from Woden, Rapid 7 from Weston Creek and the Rapid 10 from Molonglo provide direct access to the city. From there you can catch the free shuttles to either event.
