New fares in place from Saturday 4 January 2025


Transport Canberra bus and light rail fares will increase by 3% from Saturday 4 January 2025.

This increase was announced in the 2024-2025 ACT Budget. It is the first time public transport fares have increased since 2019. Fares were frozen to assist customers in the economic recovery post COVID-19.

The modest increase will see:

The same fares apply on both bus and light rail.

The new fares will assist Transport Canberra with our operational costs.

The 12-month trial of fare free Fridays remains in place. Simply tap on and off with your preferred payment method and you will not be charged. In addition to fare free Fridays, the following public transport investments have been made recently:
